Digitas University Open House, January 5, 2012
Digitas held an open house for students from various colleges and universities including University of Maryland, Syracuse University, NYU, Emory University, Elon University and The College of New Jersey.
If you didn’t get the chance to attend, here’s a recap of the event!
The night started with a check-in and there were endless lines of students waiting to head into the event room. As they started filing in from the elevator to receive the itinerary and a name tag, someone tweeted, “Watching from my desk as mobs of
@NewhouseSU students file into @Digitas for #DigitasUniversity. Talk about worlds colliding.”
Students mingled, finding a face they recognized or meeting someone new. I managed to find some SU students I hadn’t met before and chatted with them until people started sitting down for an executive panel session.
The “Inside the Executive Studio” session consisted of questions and answers with Joanne Zaiac (President, Digitas New York), Carl Fremont (Executive VP, Media) and Matt D’Ercole (Executive VP, Creative). A couple questions asked were, “How did you end up in advertising” and “When things go wrong, how do you stay calm,” which were answered in very different ways.
Next, it was time for networking. There were tables for departments from Project Management, Marketing, Creative, Technology to Finance, HR Recruiting and even table for Past Interns. You know how networking goes. :] Lines formed quickly as everyone, resumes in hand, wanted one-on-one time with current employees, while other employees (all sporting a red “Digitas University” sweatshirt or shirt and name tag around their neck) walked around engaging with students.
Lastly, as the event came to a close, raffle winners were announced (chosen randomly). Five lucky students received a mentorship with a Digitas employee (at the NY agency or elsewhere) in various capabilities (Creative, Marketing, etc.).
